Exotic Animals as Pets?Should exotic animals be kept as pets or kept free in their natural habitats?
|
Exotic animals should be kept free in their natural habitats without the influence of humans. This is because exotic animals have specific needs that are hard to fulfill in domesticated homes. Domesticated homes are foreign territory to these animals. Therefore they will not be able to live as they normally do and chances are, they will die at a younger age then expected. When on their common ground, these animals can act naturally as they please, for they are accustom to their surroundings. This makes it easy for them to find food, water, and shelter. Although there is a risk of them being preyed upon by others, we must acknowledge the fact that us humans are their biggest predators. So why would exotic animals want to be under the captivity of their most threatening predators? Yes, they're rather interesting creatures, yet we must keep in mind their health, their needs, and their wants, which cannot be satisfied in a household environment. They don't take us from our homes and keep us restrained as pets, therefore we should do the same for them. After all, the Golden Rule is "treat others the way you want to be treated." This goes for not only humans, but animals as well.
